This ethnological film on Idrija lace and bobbin lacemakers of the Idrija and Cerkno regions in Slovenia tells the story of the women who are keeping alive the heritage of bobbin lacemaking and, through their memories, reviving stories from the past. The film addresses several themes: the transfer of bobbin lacemaking skills, commercial bobbin lace production, bobbin lacemaking as a leisure activity, the making and use of bobbin lace requisites, pattern drawing, and socializing. It shows the different ways of transferring the required skills: formally, bobbin lacemaking is taught at the Idrija Lace School and in societies, and informally, in the domestic environment.
