Other Events

The Festival will feature a number of ancillary events and activities. In the 10th Festival, these will include:

  • A Festival Film Library where DVD or VHS copies of all the films submitted to the Festival may be consulted, including those that were not short-listed for screening. The Festival Film Library will be located in the Lenagan Library in the basement of the Martin Harris Centre. Here six viewing stations will be available from 10:00 to 16:30 on Wednesday, and from 9.30 to 16:30 on Thursday, Friday and Monday. We regret that the Festival Library will not be open on Saturday and Sunday
  • Book stalls stocked with relevant books, notably the stall prepared by Blackwell Publishing.

Further details will be added as they become available

Sunday 1 July
We are pleased to announce that on Sunday 1st of July, the author Caryl Phillips will do a reading and take part in a lunchtime discussion with anthropologist Steven Feld and the artist Virginia Ryan, about their exhibition 'Castaways' which is being staged at the Whitworth art gallery.

Castaways is a mixed media exhibition by visual artist Virginia Ryan in collaboration with acoustic anthropologist Steven Feld. This exhibition has transformed a gallery into an environment concerned with the washed-in and washed-out history and memory of displacements, gold and slavery along the one-time African Gold Coast, resonating with the current anniversaries of Ghanaian independence and the abolition of slavery. The exhibition has also been planned and scheduled so as to address the creative and intellectual possibilities of 'Beyond Text?'. Further details can be found at the Whitworth's exhibition page and at Voxlox.
