Hinterrhein

Situated at over 5000 feet in the Swiss Alps, Hinterrhein is a village of 80 inhabitants located halfway between Zurich and Milan, directly adjacent to the highway. Sixty years ago, cameraman Hermann Dietrich filmed the daily life and work of the men and women of this mountain village. Much has changed since then. The post office, school and local cheese-making shop disappeared long ago. The film follows the different strands of continuity and change, confronting the historical footage with today’s realities in interviews and reminiscences of its mostly elderly inhabitants.
