Rutherford Panopticon, Friday - Sunday
Throughout the Film Festival an anthropological photography exhibition will be housed in the Rutherford Panopticon Gallery. This exhibition, organised by Glenn Bowman of the University of Kent works in tandem with the Conference by exhibiting photographic work of anthropological interest as well as extending the theme of representation by allowing speakers to display the visual dimension of their work. One day conference on anthropology and visual media. The conference will examine the following themes. 1) Television representations of culture: television as a producer of culture, TV as anthropology. 2) Ethnography of "viewing". 3) Television and identity: the development of national television organisations and the ensuing discourses.
